This small Cape house was badly in need of a fresh approach.

The owner’s taste is contemporary and the house is furnished with an interesting collection of late 20th century modern furniture.  She wanted to be able to enjoy the spectacular distant water views across the marsh on one side, and toward the ocean on the other.

Magnificent old trees overshadowed the house and obscured the view.  An arborist who frequently works with our clients was able to preserve the trees and prevent them from being damaged as he revealed the view.

The house had small dark rooms and it was necessary to walk up to the narrow windows to peer out at the landscape.  We surrounded the house with large windows and doors on every side.

A wrap-around porch allows movement in and out of the house to enjoy the front and side porch and the rear deck.  The porch also serves to settle the house to the site and relieve the somewhat bland gable end, while shading the living room from the hot summer sun.

The newly remodeled master suite above has a small sitting / exercise room, a very contemporary bath and a ceiling that is raised in the new dormers to enhance the newly acquired views of the ocean and marsh.
